How to Choose Best Colleges for Distance Learning Programs
In today’s world attaining online degrees is one of the more interesting trends that are gaining wide popularity. In fact many established and renowned universities are offering degrees in varied disciplines through online education programs. By getting online education or distance learning degree from a reputed university or college, you can not just have a superior chance of getting promotions but may also demand for higher salaries.
Today there are numerous online universities, and many of them have their unique advantages. Besides this, with online universities sprouting up everywhere it has even become tricky to decide which schools offer the best package. Many of us recommend going for accredited universities but at present the scenario is totally different. These days getting accreditation has become all easy. With accreditation scams growing in numbers you cannot blindly rely on the accreditation status of universities to measure the importance of the education as well as the degree that you would earn from them. Ultimately, choosing the best online universities for distance learning is turning out to be more daunting task. Here are few important tips that can help you or you must consider while selecting online universities for distance learning or online course:
Online Faculty: Since you are going for online program, it becomes important that you ensure that faculty has proper experience in providing online classes. At times, many online universities recruit local classroom teachers and provide them with internet access. You should check out the credentials for the faculty, their qualifications and training to conduct an online class room with ease. You must also ensure that instructors have received training on the facilitation of a productive online classroom.
Sound Technical Capabilities: These days many universities attempt to include sophisticated technology like Video Streaming or Video Conferencing. Now this may seem a good idea in theory, but when it comes to actual practice these features at times severely get delayed by typical modem speeds of today. As a result, go for those universities that offer or conduct online classes via proven technologies, such as e-mail, bulletin boards, and committed to proper education service.
Quality Education Service: Seek an online university that is very education-oriented. Look for a university that can assign you personal advisor(s) who will be there to answer your questions and take care of administrative details from enrollment through graduation. This type of education service helps in raising the education standards and develops good educating relationship between tutor and student.
Course Schedule: Many universities always work harder at getting you enroll into their school. As a rule, you will be able to earn your degree in 2 or 3 years by attending classes on a part-time basis. But the important point to note is that before you begin any program always request for an outline of the curriculum and timeline for graduation. This is very important because sometimes vital dates like examination dates or practical class or exam may contradict with your prior decided task. So seek for those universities who can provide you the option to appear for important classes as per your convenience. Besides this, you must also study the online curriculum. Find out whether the coursework or suggested time-frame meets your educational needs and career goals.
Course Financing: The cost is yet another factor that you need to consider before selecting online universities. Some online universities may be cheaper but it doesn't signify that they offer sub-standard quality when it comes to education. Thus, it is important to understand that expensive is not always better. Go for those universities that offer online courses at affordable fees along with high quality education environment.
Today certainly getting a degree from a well online university can make easy for you to enter the job market. But the bottom-line is – you must make sure to get a proper distance learning degree from the best university so that your degree can further give preference to your resume and draw the maximum attention in job application.
Digital Download Game World Preview of Madballs in Invasion For Xbox Live Arcade
Madballs in Babo Invasion for Xbox live arcade game has legs and balls. MiBi is a top-down and third-person shooter built on the "Brain Candy" engine developed by Playbrains in Ottawa, Canada. This game shows fantastic depth, not just as an XBLA title, but, with its full set of features, as a competitor to retail games.
The characters in the environment blast through the levels with pinball-like physics as they roll, spin, and bounce their way through frantic arcade action. The weapons pack a big punch both in damage and recoil and its quite entertaining to see little Babo's like "Eidolon" catapulted backwards when firing the railgun-like "Beamer."
Each of the 10 unique characters has two powerful special abilities, and is a member of one of 5 classes, each with different movement speeds, a durability, a vulnerability and a strength. Players can take advantage of their enemies weaknesses by choosing the right weapon mode for the job.
Every weapon features two modes of fire, dealing different damage types like Heat, Cold, Energy and Impact. Naturally, certain characters and weapons combine well, and finding the best loadout combinations adds a ton of longevity and depth to a game that still has a pick up and play feel of a classic arcade gaming experience.
We asked John Harley, a Game Designer at Playbrains, which features of the game the team is most proud of:
#1: 4 player coop, which lets players play either faction through the 10 level campaign, with difficulty that automatically scales up in response to player count.
#2: Avatar mode, which allows you to play a competitive shooter game with your own XBox Live Avatar Head!
#3: Invasion game mode, which starts with each team building half a map and then deploying their base, followed by a combat phase which sees teams battle for territorial control and destruction of their opponent's base.
Challenge mode, available in singleplayer and 4 player co-op, sees the player choose either the noble BDI team or the evil Scorched splinter group and fight through 10 levels, chasing a shadowy Merc faction and fighting to collect a powerful relic. There is also a Level Attack mode that focuses on the arcade-style scoring system and had me playing again and again to boost my score.
Avatar mode was a riot, as I saw my Xbox Live Avatar put through the "Deacappuccino Machine" and enter a free-for-all player-versus-player game. As my Avatar head was riddled with bullets and set on fire I was surprised to learn that there is little else in our heads than confetti! Playbrains has wisely chosen to show no blood, guts or gore when playing in avatar mode, earning them a ESRB game rating of E10+.
I also played a few games of the namesake "Invasion Mode". Teams are presented with a unique mini-game that sees players take turns building a map. Each player places randomly selected map tiles on a board, much like in the XBLA boardgame Carcassone. Once the map is complete, there is a quick team vote to place a base and some control points and the map is dynamically built before your eyes.
Teams battle across this new map, stealing control points and trying to destroy their opponent's base. Every time you play this mode the map is going to be completely new, because there are more than 150 tiles but only a couple dozen are used each time. This completely bowled us over with the degree of depth and innovation, and is something we've never seen before in any game.
Overall, its easy to forget that I am previewing a 1200 point game for XBLA and not a full retail release. In this short preview, we still have not seen the whole game and all its features. Madballs in Babo: Invasion will set a new high watermark for digitally downloaded titles and is looking like a Game of the Year contender already!
MadBalls in Babo: Invasion comes to Xbox Live Marketplace July 15, 2009.
The Technology of Peer-To-Peer (P2P) Downloads
It was just about two decades ago that an online technology called Peer-to-Peer evolved. Also known popularly and in short as P2P, it refers to the connection of 2 computers or 2 network systems via the internet. In P2P downloads, there is no intermediary server involved; the 2 computers are the server and the client.
Their roles change depending on which of them is downloading and which is uploading. Sometime, both actions can happen simultaneously so that each computer becomes a server as well as a client. All you need for P2P downloading is only a simple internet connection and Peer-to-Peer software, which is readily available online, frequently in the form of a membership service.
Napster:
One of the pioneers in this field is Napster, which was developed in 1999, soon after the MP3 digitally compressed format of music became popularly accepted. Napster developed a kind of software that enabled users to connect to one another freely, but the connection was done in a rather cumbersome manner. The server (Napster) would match a user's request for downloads with other users' availability, and then the two parties would be connected through a telephone switchboard!
However, this scheme was destined to become a hit since the more the people that downloaded, the greater the availability of downloads. By 2001, Napster P2P membership had grown to over one million, with over 20 million files available for download.
However, as the Napster Company expanded and became more popular, they faced many lawsuits, especially from the Record Industry Association of America, and even from bands and artists who filed lawsuits against Napster for fear that their CD sales and royalties will be adversely affected.
Napster were eventually forced to close, and then restarted in a different format, charging for copyrighted downloads, the free provision of which was the reason for their original demise. Napster's weakness was that they were the central server through which all downloads were made, and hence could be targeted as being legally responsible for those that were downloaded illegally.
We will now discuss briefly a few of the most outstanding Peer-to-Peer server companies operating today:
Kazaa:
Kazaa is one of the earliest to descend on the P2P scene. It provides facilities for search and downloading of files from Kazaa users and sources of shared premium content. It uses a process that makes your searches very fast, and this is possible because it connects to "supermodes" which are computers or networks with very high internet speeds. If a required file cannot be found, Kazaa's "Search Agent" will automatically perform searches every 30 minutes for the next 24 hours to look for the file.
Limewire:
Limewire is one of the open source P2P programs. It has a number of great features, such as unlimited simultaneous searches, integrated chat, "swarm downloads" from multiple hosts, and many more advanced search options. However, only the paid Pro version offers download speeds worth considering.
BitTorrent:
This is one of the latest and most popular Peer-to-Peer file distribution programs. To access the BitTorrent Network for downloading, you have to download the BitTorrent Client which is available in over 20 languages. Once the set-up is complete, you will be in the elite company of over 70 million users who can upload and download at will, not only music and videos but also entire movies at incredible speeds.
You can actually complete the download and watch the movie while it is still running at its original destination! However, such fantastic speeds are attainable only with a broadband internet connection. Due to its excellent speed and other highly favorable features, millions of viewers are downloading original films, videos and music freely, and this has led to many protests and law suits for infringement of provisions of copyright and intellectual property laws. Its weakness is that you don't not receive the entire movie from one client, but only parts from each of a number of them and for this reason it sometimes fails.
BearShare:
Its free edition has many useful P2P features, including MP3 and WAV audio sound files sharing and a messenger service for chatting. It used to use the same Gnutella network as Limewire, but no longer.
Ares:
Ares makes it possible for you to access the shared folders of other users for searching images, videos, sounds, documents, software and other types of files. Users can decide to share or keep their files or folders as private. It can handle Bittorrent and Shoutcast, and is based on the Gnutella open source software.
Morpheus:
Morpheus has features for the elimination of spyware, video and audio streaming, and support for BitTorrent, podcasts, iTunes, parental controls, and integrated playlist development, among other advanced options. Another novel feature that is incorporated in its latest version is a tool for the detection of copyrighted material.
Although peer-to-peer file sharing services have got a bad press at the moment due to illegal use to download copyrighted movies and music, the p2p software itself is not illegal. It is the way that some people use that creates the problem. However, many musicians make a lot of money due to people downloading tracks and then going out and buying either the albums, or tickets for live shows.
I would think twice about complaining were I them, because they could lose a lot of potential fans by complaining about what to them is a mere drop in the bucket. I have yet to read about a singer or musician who has become poor through music downloads.
In saying that, there is a lot of debate and confusion surrounding the legality of downloading copyrighted material. Apart from the companies that make P2P file sharing possible, many individual users have also been taken to court to face charges, and it is in your interest to use the utmost discretion as to what you download and from what sources you download files. It is also fact that those that have been prosecuted are a very miniscule minority.
However, you are advised not to download copyrighted material, and use the software for the originally intended purpose.
Article Marketing and Google: Time to Shift the Focus Back to Ezines?
With the effects of Google's Orion wiping out duplicate content and content spam, it may indeed be time to shift your article marketing from mass submissions back to selective ones. Search engine experts already called it: Google is in so many words, giving the glory back to niche-focused web sites that speak to humans as opposed to robots.
To make your own judgement call on the Google situation, read what Garrett Rogers had to say on the matter back in April, then Google a few of your recent article marketing keyword efforts for the confirming evidence.
If you're a search engine prowler like I am, you may have noticed the change. Just four months ago you could submit one article to ten directories, Google-search the prime keyword search term, and discover a glorious broadcast of sloppily managed article banks revealing your article title at the top of the Google results page. But now, it's all come undone. Keyword terms have been returned to their proper owners-- longstanding businesses who have built niche-targeted, categorical web sites and spent years fortifying them with high-quality, intelligent content.
I have to wonder how many small article directories hell-bent on the bragging rights that come with search engine prominence, are now throwing in the article marketing towel altogether. If the reality of Orion hasn't hit them yet, perhaps it will very soon. Granted, I'd be hard-pressed to call myself a search engine optimization expert. But as an astute observer, that's what the writing on the wall is saying to me.
Despite the Google algorithm shift, article marketing is still very much a viable way to get your business before the eyes of targeted prospects; now moreso than ever. Thanks to Google, and barring unforseen circumstances, it's been arranged that the content publishers who are in it for the long haul will prevail. And so, the question on everybody's minds: what to do with your article marketing campaign?
Some Tips from a Strategic Article Marketer:
1. Target your niche. Focus on building a library of tightly-focused content in one category. Write one or two articles each month, and publish them exclusively on your own Web site.
2. Save it for your ezine. Articles will always be a source of interest for your readers and fans. If you haven't started building a list yet, now's the time. Ezines build trust and they're the foundation of your client base.
3. Duck the dupe content penalty. Mass article submissions hold no clout now, as far as I can see. Shift your energy from mass submissions to selective ones. Focus on the Best, not the most.
4. Remold old content. All the article marketing articles I wrote are heading toward obsolete and in need of reworking. How's your content looking? Take another look at your previously published articles and repackage/remold for reuse in a new form.
5. Join article communities. EzineArticles.com serves as an info authority and promises a free education on any number of topics. Publish articles regularly here as a testament to your expertise.
6. Network with other article authors. If your previous goal was to get your articles in the Google spotlight, your new strategy should be to shine among fellow article submitters.
7. Swap EzineArticles. Strengthen your bonds with top quality content producers in related niche categories. Advertise an article swap for two times the exposure.
8. Be niche-selective. You'll likely start to see a shift from "generic" article banks, to topic-focused, which is the way that it should be. An example: GoDaddy's new article site, DomainInformer.com. Write original, exclusive articles for specific, targeted sites like these.
9. Stick to natural linking. Natural links are ones that further the reader experience by providing more information; for example to a resource. Artificial ones are self-serving to the content publisher only and will put a crimp in your search engine effort.
Article directories will continue to serve as an amazing free resource for anyone wishing to market a Web site. This fact alone keeps article marketing high on my list of Great Things You Can Do For Your Internet Business. I will continue to contribute my knowledge in the form of article submissions, as will I keep on reading and learning from my fellow article marketers. I suggest you do the same.
